Can a titanium ring be sized?
Is it possible to size a titanium ring? Many people buy titanium only to find out later that the ring cannot be sized.......
This is a common problem with titanium wedding rings. The retailer or seller of the ring should be upfront with the customer and tell them that the ring cannot be made bigger or smaller. The reason is that when a titanium ring is made it is turned from a solid piece of titanium. Welding titanium is a very difficult and expensive process - so to cut it and add or remove a piece is just not a viable option - it is cheaper to remake the ring.
A titanium ring can sometimes be made 1/2 a size bigger. It is done by grinding the inside of the ring. It takes some time but can be done. All the inside engraving will be lost and will have to be redone.
Although the sizing issue is a problem, the benefits of a titanium ring far out way this hassle. The price you pay compared to gold or silver is vast - so much so that it is worthwhile just having a new band made up when you need a bigger titanium ring size or a smaller titanium ring size. The material is inexpensive and it really does last forever. One of my favorite comments is that if you ever need to re-enter the atmosphere - you can do it wearing your titanium ring.
